Babysitting is exhausting!

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

After an evening of playing with, being pulled, prodded and generally tortured by our three sleepover guests (ages 8, 6 and 2), Charlie is more than ready to call it a night!

Working from home

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

This is what working from home looks like right now. I joke that Charlie loves having me around all day, but I know that I get just as much (or more) out of his company than he gets from mine.

when you’ve got nothing else to do?

Play in the grass in the California sun. That’s what.

Charlie’s Favorites

There are a lot of places that Charlie likes to sit or lie down or hide, but his “house” is his favorite.  I’m sure it’s cozy and comfortable and safe.

He’s sleeping off a long day today – morning walk with me, “bring-Charlie-to-the-office” day with Elizabeth and then an hour running around the Culver City Boneyard.  Now he’s napping while I pretend to be productive, doing whatever it is that I do.

Who’s Charlie?

Charlie’s a Chihuahua.  A long hair Chihuahua.  A white long hair Chihuahua.  Charlie came into our lives almost exactly three years ago when he was just four months old.  We didn’t plan on adopting a dog, especially not a rat-dog Chihuahua, but just look at this face and those floppy ears and tell me you could resist.

I came home from work that evening and found Elizabeth napping on the couch with a tiny little white fur-ball curled up on her chest.  He woke up and bounded over to me – impossible that something so small could run – and covered my hand with licks.  Ever since that day, we’ve been best buds.

Recently, Elizabeth, Charlie and I have been going through a big transition.  In March, we moved from New York City, where we’d lived for about a decade, to Los Angeles.  In connection with the move, I lost my job – well, “lost” isn’t exactly the right way to put it, but more on that later – and, as a result, Charlie and I are spending a lot of time together.  Like all day, every day.  And nothing could be better.  For either of us.

MylifewithCharlie.com is dedicated to my friend Charlie, to moving to and living in LA, to being unemployed and to sharing the joy of Charlie with you.
